Being that we love canyoneering, Bonas Defeat in North Carolina has been on our radar for some time. We finally got the chance to run it with a few search and rescue folks from the NC teams. Water was running higher than normal due to work on the powerplant that controls the flow through the canyon, but that made it more interesting and challenging for our 10-man team. The flow rate caused quite a few technical obstacles we had to work around with a few requiring a bit of rope work. In the end, it was an awesome day and one of the most beautiful routes we have run in Western North Carolina. The trip also served as a scouting mission for the day the call comes in that someone needs rescuing out of this place – that will not be an easy task.
